“How am I supposed to Act, Mane?” 😂😂 Repost from @therealbrandee

I’m standing in solidarity with the #WGA #wgastrong

‼️Aht Aht….Before commenting strong and WRONG, take a few minutes and do research about WHY UNION WRITERS are striking EVERYWHERE. So that means ALLLLLLLLL NETWORKS. ALL… not just @starz. Read y’all. Take a minute on this good Wednesday and READ. Love, the former English teacher. 😘

Another day another sign. 😂 This fight is only beginning and it’s about MUCH more than residuals and AI (both crucial!). For instance, I can’t believe the AMPTP is asking for late night writers to be paid a day rate (it’s currently only a 13 week contract, so it’s not even a good deal now!). Imagine showing up as a skilled professional with no guarantee that you’ll be asked back the next day. If your joke doesn’t get on tv that night, you’re fired. That’s just ONE of the outrageous tactics we’re up against. #WGAStrong

A PHENOMENAL night yesterday at the BWFN Short Film Festival! 🎉🥳 Eight incredible shorts were screened in front of a packed audience at MODEx Studio in Atlanta (the line before opening extended to Pharr Rd!). WCLK personality and marketing director Ray Cornelius hosted the affair, which included great food, drinks and over 3 hours of poignant storytelling from a Black woman’s perspective. The evening ended with awards to the following films:

* Best Film Editing - “Brief Exchanges”
* Best Cinematography- “Summer”
* Best Screenplay - “Look Back at It” (Felicia Pride)
* Best Actor - Ashley Versher (“Brief Exchanges”)
* Audience Award - “Look Back At It”
* Best Director - Phyllis Toben Bancroft (“With Salt”)
* Best in Festival - “Look Back at It” (Felicia Pride)
Congrats to these winners and all of the filmmakers who participated. Thank you to Elon Johnson and Aanch Khaneja for serving as this year’s judges. They had a really tough job!

And finally, thank you to Mercendez Springer for her outstanding curation of this festival, our best one ever!

Stay tuned for more events from BWFN!

“It was in seeing these films that I realized what I have to do as a filmmaker, beyond simply using the art form as a way to express myself.” With her new, award-winning film A THOUSAND AND ONE now in theaters and on demand, director A.V. The episode of @goodtrouble that I directed premieres tomorrow, 4/20 at 10pm. I had a great time working with this cast and crew and can’t wait for everyone to see result of our hard work. Congrats to everyone who worked on this season! And a special thanks to my editor @reedonculous for making sure this episode came together and to Chris Sacani and Joanna Johnson @jjjoannajohnson who invited me to join one of my fave shows.

Whenever someone says no one watches women’s sports, show them this. 😤⁣
•⁣
A record-setting NCAA women’s basketball tournament did not just set a new viewership record Sunday, it obliterated the previous ESPN-era high. 📈🏀⁣
•⁣
Sunday’s LSU-Iowa NCAA women’s basketball national championship game averaged 9.9 million viewers on ABC and ESPN2, per Nielsen fast-nationals — up 103% from South Carolina-UConn on ESPN and ESPN2 last year (4.85M) and easily the most-watched title game in the history of the women’s tournament (records date back to 1992). 📺👀⁣
•⁣
It’s crazy what happens when you put women’s sports on TV!!! 😉
•⁣
Looking for more women’s tourney highs? Be sure to listen to today’s episode of “The GIST of It” wherever you get your podcasts! 🎧 #thegist

What is it about a confident Black woman that sends people up in flames?

From Serena Williams and Simone Biles to recent NCAA champ Angel Reese, it’s clear that society wants Black women to shrink themselves and their craft to make others comfortable. If they don’t, a wave of scrutiny ensues.

However, a new era has arrived, and these women are taking up space and remaining unapologetically bold as they bask in their wins.
